Indiana is phasing in structural changes to its property tax deduction system over several years, affecting homeowners statewide, including in Hamilton County.
For the 2026 assessment year, payable in 2027, Hamilton County's standard homestead deduction is set at $40,000.
The supplemental deduction percentage for that same assessment year is set at 46%, another key figure in calculating a homeowner's final tax bill.
These deductions apply on top of a home's assessed value, helping lower the taxable amount used to calculate a homeowner's actual bill.
Indiana does offer property tax caps designed to give homeowners some protection, though actual bills can still vary based on individual property factors.
